Our right to speak is threatened by those claiming emotional pain inflicted by our words. Let them know this has to stop. Defend your right to offend while you can. I am not saying you should strive to be offensive. I am saying, you should be able to be yourself without worry of being persecuted or prosecuted for saying anything! I firmly believe my rights end where your rights begin. That deserves repeating, MY RIGHTS END WHERE YOUR RIGHTS BEGIN. Included within my rights, and yours, is the right to not be slandered or libeled.
Short of that, free speech prevails. The notion that a word can bring pain to someone is just silly. Do you realize how much control that gives others over you? If you are so affected by the opinions of others, then you seriously need to examine why. A name, an insult, like every other word, is only endowed with the power you decide to give it. So if you don’t like how I look, look away. If you don’t like what I say, don’t listen. No one will force you. But don’t try to force me to be like you.
