Ron Paul Town Hall (01/06/08)

January 8th, 2008

From the Houston Chronicle Jan. 7, 2008:

Shut out of a GOP presidential candidate forum sponsored by Fox News, Ron Paul staged his own televised town hall meeting in which he fielded questions from undecided voters two days before the key primary election here (N.H.)

The decision by Fox to limit participation in the forum infuriated Paul supporters and even drew the ire of the New Hampshire Republican Party, which withdrew its sponsorship of the event. Fox had invited Republican candidates Rudolph Giuliani, John McCain, Romney, Huckabee and Fred Thompson to the forum, but excluded Paul as well as California congressman Duncan Hunter.

Paul protested, arguing that he raised $20 million in the last quarter of 2007, almost the same amount as Hillary Clinton. Furthermore, a Research 2000 poll published in the Concord Monitor released Sunday showed Paul garnering 7 percent of the vote, besting Thompson and only 1 point behind Giuliani in the state.

This comes right after Ron outpaced Rudy by 10 to 4 percent in Iowa. This town hall format at least gives Ron Paul a chance to answer the questions from undecided voters without being up against a shot clock.

A search of the Fox”News” website reveals a section filed under Politics called, “Get a Glimpse of All the Campaigns From the FOX News”. Indeed if you are looking for Ron Paul, a glimpse is all you will get. There is one post consisting entirely of this: “Sunday, supporters of Ron Paul organized a fund raiser on the anniversary of the Boston Tea party. They raised an astonishing 6 million dollars! Even Dr. Paul seemed stunned.”

Compare Ron Paul’s post count of 1 to the following: Hillary Clinton (79), Barack Obama (63), Mitt Romney (56), Mike Huckabee (42), John McCain (34), Rudy Giuliani (30), John Edwards (28).

“Fair and Balanced”? You decide.

The quality of this video is poor, but the content is important enough to suffer through.

He may have thought himself very clever, but I find it extremely scary. And though I am not a Christian, if I was, I think I would be very offended at his pretentious blasphemy.

The Washington Post reports Huckabee was a guest speaker in Windham, N.H., on Sunday at a church called the Crossing. “When we become believers, it’s as if we have signed up to be part of God’s Army, to be soldiers for Christ,” Huckabee told the enthusiastic audience. “When you give yourself to Christ, some relationships have to go,” he said. “It’s no longer your life; you’ve signed it over.” Likening service to God to service in the military, Huckabee said “there is suffering in the conditioning for battle” and “you obey the orders.”

I don’t see a person’s religion as a direct indicator of how that person will perform in public office. Religion should be a separate matter. There are many “religious” people that have not been good leaders, or even good people. So don’t pile on the religious credentials and expect that to carry any weight with me. And when a man such as this uses his religion as a platform for electioneering, I am doubly offended. If he is following God’s orders anyway, why don’t we just cut out the middle man and elect God?

Frame 1: Notice that Ron Paul numbers are 10.1% with 8549 votes (with 72% of the precincts reporting.)

Frame 2: When the Republican results are reported, there is a very large slice of unallocated pie chart.

Frame 3: The math shows that unallocated portion to be 14% of the whole.

Frame 4: The chart as it should have appeared. Ron Paul claimed the largest portion of the unallocated with the balance going to Rudy.

It is common to leave off the minor players when making charts like this, but as you can see in frame 1, in reporting the Democratic results they included Richardson with only 2% of the vote. Seems a rather blatant non-report of a pretty good showing.

BILL MOYERS: THE CHICAGO TRIBUNE has a headline, “Paul, a seller of ideas. They call him Dr. No. No big government. No big spending. No flouting the Constitution. And no interest in the slick political image.” And the lead of the story is “No more Department of Education. No more Federal Reserve Bank. No more Medicare, Medicaid. No more membership in the United Nations or NATO. No more federal drug laws. And no more U.S. troops in Iraq or anywhere else on foreign soil.” Does that pretty well sum up?

RON PAUL: Yeah. It’s a pretty good idea. I have transition programs for everything, because I think the Federal Reserve is a monstrous idea. This whole idea that if your government needs money, and the politicians spend too much, to run wars. Oh, we’ll print up the money. I mean, it’s a silly idea. But I still, I have a transition program, just like I said about taking care of Social Security recipients, or money. You can - introduce competition. There’s a lot of ways we can work our way out of it. Yeah, but that is basically it. So, you can make everyone of those “nos” into a “yes.” Yes. I’m for freedom. Yes, I am for sound money. Yes, I’m for free markets. And, yes, I’m for sensible foreign policy. I sure am for bringing the troops home, because I am against American empire. I’m for defending the country and having a strong national defense.

This trailer made internet history as #1 ranked video on Google the day it was leaked to the public and in the Top 100 videos IN THE WORLD on Oct 25. It disappeared from the Top 100 list while #1 on Nov. 2, after it was viewed more than 3 million times. The full 1 hour film (available on YouPerView.com at $6.99 per view) reveals the obstructions of justice directed by Hillary that involves the apparent corruption of the chief of public integrity of the justice department and a federal judge appointed by the Clintons. See the evidence on the public record at www.hillcap.org and www.peterfpaul.com. The Documentary uses exclusive Home Videos of Hillary taken by her largest donor, Peter Paul, to expose the illegalities that won her senate election and the obstructions of justice that keep her there.

The full five-minute videotape touted as “smoking gun evidence” of two felonies committed by Sen. Hillary Clinton has been released to WND and is available for viewing here. In the tape, Clinton is heard via speakerphone thanking Paul, business partner Stan Lee and other colleagues for their efforts in putting together the fundraiser. She also describes the role of longtime aide Kelly Craighead as assisting in day-to-day involvement in preparation for the event as her liaison with Paul and his producers. Craighead, Clinton says, “talks all the time” with Paul, “so she’ll be the person to convey whatever I need.” The aide’s hands-on role is significant, because the law also implicates a candidate if any of his or her agents are involved in coordinating expenditures with a donor. In another portion of the tape, Clinton is heard discussing her direct solicitation of a large contribution from the entertainer Cher. Paul’s legal team, the U.S. Justice Foundation, argues the value of Cher’s performance alone vastly exceeded the FEC limits.

The tape was one of 90 Paul was ordered to turn over to the U.S. attorney’s office for the Eastern District of New York in 2001 as part of the investigation in a related securities case against him. But it has never been used as evidence, despite its relevance to the key question of Sen. Clinton’s involvement in the Hollywood fundraiser.

Sen. Clinton has claimed through her spokesman Howard Wolfson that Paul gave no money to her campaign, and her supporters have denied she had anything to do with coordinating the fund-raiser or soliciting contributions directly from donors.
